Facts about Georgia
Georgia lies at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. In 2008, the global economic crisis and armed conflict with Russia took a severe toll on Georgia’s economy. Growth slowed, and the country was forced to cope with many internally displaced persons. Today, unemployment remains high at 14.9 percent. While a majority of Georgians are employed in agriculture, that sector accounts for just 8.3% of the total economy, and that proportion is shrinking.
FINCA Georgia operates in 40 locations throughout the country, providing financial services to more than 100,000 clients in urban and rural areas, where the need for financial services is greater. Some of FINCA’s clients are internally displaced persons, forced by conflict to leave homes and jobs behind. These Georgians have started over in their new locations by launching small businesses. To help them, FINCA Georgia provides a variety of credit products, including individual, SME loans, local currency and agriculture loans, savings products for adults and children as well as money transfers services.
