Charité Marchelin
Charité Marchelin knows all about the hustle and bustle of life in Saint-Marc, Haiti. The businesswoman opened her market stall eight years ago, selling a variety of food and household items.
Charité always ensures that her stalls are well-stocked because food plays an important role in building community in Saint-Marc. To get her items, Charité often travels to the Dominican Republic as homegrown food seldom meets domestic demand in Haiti. COVID-19 put an end to this when Haiti’s borders were closed, forcing her to close shop for months.
Even upon reopening, civil unrest and violence made it difficult for business, but Charité still worked to earn and maintain the trust of her customers. The loans she received from FINCA helped her grow her business into a thriving shop with two employees, but the work is not done.
Charité dreams of expanding her stall so she can sell more products safely and protect herself and her customers from the sweltering heat with improved sealing to keep cool air in.
FINCA loans are made possible through partnerships and donations by generous donors.
